Yet Another Appalling NYPD Tactic: Send The Aggressive Crazies To Zuccotti Park

The New York Daily News reports:
The NYPD seems to have crossed a line in recent days, as the park has taken on a darker tone with unsteady and unstable types suddenly seeming to emerge from the woodwork. Two different drunks I spoke with last week told me they’d been encouraged to “take it to Zuccotti” by officers who’d found them drinking in other parks, and members of the community affairs working group related several similar stories they’d heard while talking with intoxicated or aggressive new arrivals. The NYPD’s press office declined to comment on the record about any such policy, but it seems like a logical tactic from a Bloomberg administration that has done its best to make things difficult for the occupation — a way of using its openness against it.

“He’s got a right to express himself, you’ve got a right to express yourself,” I heard three cops repeat in recent days, using nearly identical language, when asked to intervene with troublemakers inside the park, including a clearly disturbed man screaming and singing wildly at 3 a.m. for the second straight night. “The first time I’ve heard cops mention our First Amendment rights,” cracked one occupier after hearing a lieutenant read off of that apparent script.
And now we know the true source of all those triumphant "on the scene" reports from Fox News.

Fox News Chairman Installed Bullet-Proof Glass Because He Feared Gay Activists

According to a former managing editor at Fox News, chairman Roger Ailes installed bullet-proof glass on his midtown Manhattan office windows because he feared assassination by gay activists. I’m not exactly sure which one of the two took this photo (I mean, it could have been both of them), but it’s gorgeous! Look at that light shine right through the fog to illuminate the Williamsburg Bridge!

King Philip IV of Spain signing autographs at the MET

The latest Improv Everywhere stunt took place inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art with a look-alike stand-in of King Philip IV of Spain. The event was planned around the unveiling of the restored painting by Diego Velázquez at the MET and ended up causing such a ruckus that Improv Everywhere was kicked out. Oh well!

The Dangers Of Nude Modeling

One of the pitfalls of nude skank modeling is one day you might end up in a bathtub at a Diddy release party with your hair on fire while some douchebag rapper wannabe drones on about his fly lifestyle.

Mr. Brainwash vs. TrustoCorp

Controversy surrounds Mr. Brainwash aka Thierry Guetta and there is more drama added to the mix with  Street art conglomerate, TrustoCorp, beginning an anti-MBW campaign.  They defaced several prominent Brainwash pieces in NYC’s Meatpacking district with the message,  “Locals Only, No Fakes, No Phonies”.

The City Goes Green With White

092409ymca4MATT Adopting a principle that mankind has been aware of for centuries, the city officially rolled out its initiative to paint 1 million square feet of rooftop white, a remarkably common sense measure that reduces the surface temperatures of both the roof and the interior of the building dramatically. This is both a very cheap and easy way to lower energy costs.

Comcast, TWC and Cablevision make friendly, team up for NYC-wide WiFi

And Comcast makes three. Two years after Cablevision started rolling out hotspots in the Big Apple and less than a month after Time Warner joined it, Comcast has gotten buddy-buddy with the pair in their efforts to blanket New York City with WiFi. If you subscribe to any one of their data services, you now get free access to all three, and can use your existing login at any Optimum, Time Warner or Xfinity hotspot across the city. In a press release, Cablevision executive John Bickham said the agreement might be "the first of many." We wonder if by banding together, cable might one day compete with the telcos on wireless connectivity, the way they now do with home internet and television services. Still, the best laid plans... Full press release after the break.
