Another Follow Up of the Day: Parents Lose Custody Of Adolf Hitler

Another Follow Up of the Day: Parents Lose Custody Of Adolf Hitler

Another Follow Up of the Day: The mother and father of three children with Nazi-themed names have reportedly lost custody of their kids, despite claiming that a court in New Jersey ruled that no abuse had taken place

Adolf Hitler, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation, and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie were placed in foster care nearly three years ago after a ShopRite reported Heath and Deborah Campbell’s request to decorate a birthday cake for their three-year-old son, who happens to share a name with an infamous dictator.

The couple’s claim that the children were removed solely because of their names was disputed today by a New Jersey appeals court, which ruled that sufficient evidence of abuse and parental incompetence existed to justify their placement in foster care.

The case was sent to New Jersey Family Court for further examination. According to the Campbells, a judge is set to rule in December on the status of their custody.

This Is All Kinds Of Wrong of the Day

This Is All Kinds Of Wrong of the Day

This Is All Kinds Of Wrong of the Day: A Brooklyn woman who was struck by a stray bullet says she was unlawfully detained for five days by police officers who claimed she was lying about the incident.

35-year-old Takesha Griffin was allegedly handcuffed to a bench and, later, put in a dirty holding cell at the 73rd Precinct, while officers attempted to compel a false confession. “They wanted me to lie,” Griffin told the Daily News. “It was like The Twilight Zone.”

The Brownsville resident reported that she was hit in her thigh by a stray bullet after returning home from a club with a male friend. The same friend drove Griffin to the Hospital, where staff alerted the police after realizing the source of the wound.

Griffin, who was taken away by police while still in her hospital scrubs, says she was held at the Brownsville police station from September 3rd through September 8th, even though, by law, she was entitled to a court appearance within 24 hours.

While in custody, Griffin claims she was forced to urinate on herself after no one would take her to the restroom, and says she was made fun of when she complained about receiving a McDonald’s hamburger every day in lieu of a decent meal.

“This is something that would happen in a fascist state, not in America,” says her lawyer, Sanford Rubenstein.

The police claimed that Griffin was shot during a lovers’ spat with her friend; a background check also brought up a warrant for her arrest issued after Griffin allegedly failed to heed a disorderly conduct summons. Griffin pointed out to police officers that her friend was gay — they were returning from a gay club — and the warrant was later shown to be a clerical error.

Griffin and Rubenstein plan to sue the city for $5 million.

TV Show News of the Day

TV Show News of the Day

TV Show News of the Day: A crazy flood of TV news has been gushing out in recent days.

Hot on the heels of a reports that both The Simpsons and Dexter are locked in financial negotiations that may end both shows, a slew of new and exciting development deals has emerged.

The Coen Brothers are set to make their first foray into television — with a comedy no less — according to Deadline. The Oscar-winning directing duo will produce a project penned by Cedar Rapids writer Phil Johnston.

The hourlong sitcom, HarveKarbo, “follows the title character — an ill-tempered LA private investigator whose cases frequently involve the depraved doings of the Hollywood elite — and his deadbeat friends in Los Angeles’ El Segundo.”

Meanwhile, Jon Favreau (Swingers, Iron Man) is reportedly attached to two exciting TV projects: A single-camera comedy for CBS called Tweaked, and an X-Files-meets-West Wing sci-fi drama for ABC called Ex-Comm, being co-written by Fringe co-creator Roberto Orci, Robot Chicken co-creator Seth Green, and Superman Returns/X-Men 2 co-scribe Michael Dougherty.

No word yet on when any of these projects might see the light of day.

BAMF of the Day

BAMF of the Day

BAMF of the Day: 22-year-old Brooke Collins of Juneau spotted a black bear biting her dachshund’s neck, so she did what any normal dog lover would do: She ran over and punched the bear square in the nose.

“It was a stupid thing but I couldn’t help it,” she told the Juneau Empire. “I know you’re not supposed to do that but I didn’t want my dog to be killed.”

Collins says that when she let her dogs out Sunday evening she didn’t see that a bear was nearby. It was only after she heard Fudge barking that she realized something was amiss. “That bear was carrying her like a salmon,” she says.

The next few minutes went by in a blur. she approached the bear and struck it in the face, causing it to let go of the pup. “It was all so fast,” Collins is quoted as saying. “All I could think about was my dog was going to die.”

She sustained very minor injuries, and Fudge made away with a few shallow claw and bite marks.

Marketing Campaign of the Day [UPDATED]

Marketing Campaign of the Day

Marketing Campaign of the Day: “Interbest is a provider of large billboards near highways in The Netherlands. With the following tagline: ‘The sooner you advertise here, the better‘ they created a lot of buzz since the man on the billboard is wearing less and less cloths each day.” (Embiggen.)

As clever as this campaign is, I can’t help but wonder if perhaps the reason no one has advertised there yet is because they’re waiting to see how far Interbest is willing to go with their gimmick.

UPDATE: Someone eventually purchased the ad space, just as the posters were getting to the good stuff.

Unfriendly Policy of the Day

Unfriendly Policy of the Day

Unfriendly Policy of the Day: Richard Metzger @ Dangerous Minds recently received a rather puzzling e-mail from Facebook, informing him that a photo his site posted on Facebook had been removed for violating “Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities,” which prohibits “shares that contain nudity, or any kind of graphic or sexually suggestive content.”

The photo in question? Two men kissing (above).

It gets worse: The photo was associated with a post on his site concerning a London-based “kiss-in” organized to protest the mistreatment of two gay patrons of The John Snow pub — a protest which originated on Facebook. The John Snow protest page has since been removed as well.

Facebook, by the way, does not respond to violation reports with an automatic removal. According to the Facebook Help Center, an administrator “looks into each report thoroughly in order to decide the appropriate course of action,” only removing the offending content if a violation has occurred. So make of that what you will.

Stop The Presses of the Day

Stop The Presses of the Day

Stop The Presses of the Day: 22-year-old youth worker Charli Dickenson has gained international renown for spotting a house in his hometown of Swansea, South Wales, that looks like Hitler. “It was picked up by Jimmy Carr on his Twitter,” he told The Sun. “Now everyone is talking about it.” Indeed.

I guess Warhol got it just right when he said “In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes for posting a photo on the Internet of a house that kind of resembles Hitler but not really.”

Justice Is Blind Not Deaf of the Day

Justice Is Blind Not Deaf of the Day: Willie Nelson, who was recently busted with six ounces of marijuana at a border stop in Sierra Blanca, received an unusual plea bargain offer from Hudspeth County attorney Kit Bramblett: No jail time and a small fine in exchange for performing “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” in court.

“It’s the judge’s decision whether or not to approve it, but that’s what I would offer,” Mr. Bramblett told The Big Bend Sentinel. “That’s the one I would request, and that would be his community service.”

Nelson has yet to comment on the offer.

First Look of the Day

First Look of the Day

First Look of the Day: Concept art for Pixar’s 13th feature-length film, Brave, has arrived online courtesy of EW’s Inside Movies. The animated fairy tale will be Pixar’s first feature to star a female protagonist, and its first film to be co-directed by a woman.

A synopsis follows:

Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).

Brave is due in theaters June 22, 2012.
